Audition FAQ's

Is womanSong the right chorus for me?

Yes, if you are a woman who:

  • loves singing a variety of repertoire (classical, world music, folk, and more)

  • has some sight-reading ability

  • can commit to our rehearsal and performance schedule

 

What can you tell me about the audition process?

During the musical audition, the Director will ask you to:

  • sing scales and warm-ups (to determine tone quality and range)

  • repeat simple melodic patterns (to ascertain tonal memory/pitch recognition)

  • sight-read an excerpt (to determine your level of reading skill)

What responsibilities will I have as a member of womanSong?

First and foremost, at the core of womanSong’s mission, we strive for a high quality of musical excellence. Therefore, the ability to learn your music in a timely manner is of the utmost importance.

womanSong’s concert season usually consists of two major concerts and several smaller concerts throughout the community.

Rehearsal Information

Singers are expected to attend weekly rehearsals, which are held on Tuesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Christ Church United Methodist in Charleston.

One retreat is scheduled per concert preparation period, as well as several sectionals.

One Saturday per month outside of retreat month is scheduled for a 3-hour concentration on repertoire and concert preparation.

An additional dress rehearsal is held during the week prior to each major concert. Dress rehearsal attendance is mandatory.

If needed, extra rehearsals will be scheduled at the Director's discretion.

Financial Obligations

Annual dues are $300, payable at the beginning of the season or in three installments.

Concert attire (black palazzo pants and a colored pashmina shawl) must be purchased by singers.
